October is Transport Month in South Africa and the Cape Town authorities have planned numerous initiatives to mark the event. Highlights include the launch of a new park-and-ride facility in the Helderberg area, with easy access to a new express bus service into town, and the inauguration of the newly completed public transport hub at Claremont. Other events include a bicycle ride in the Greenwood area, the second international conference on the reconstruction and management of high-speed road accidents (at the Grand West Entertainment Centre 27-30 October) and the launch of a new multimillion-rand transport management centre in Goodwood.
