Over 300 representatives of the tourism, environmental and development sectors are to gather in Arusha for the Travellers Philanthropy Conference from 3-5 December. The meeting will explore how tourism can be harnessed to support community development and conservation projects in host countries. Speakers at the conference include Kenyan Nobel peace laureate and conservationist Professor Wangari Maathai and chairman of the African Conservation Centre Professor David Western, also from Kenya. The conference is being organized by the United States-based non-profit Center on Eco-tourism and Sustainable Development (CESD) and participants are expected from the US, Canada, United Kingdom, Nigeria, India, Costa Rica, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania.
