At least two people have died after a four-storey residential building collapsed on Oderinde Street in the Idi Araba neighbourhood on 24 March, rescue workers have said. Roiughly 14 people have been brought out alive from under the rubble and taken to the nearby Lagos University teaching hospital for treatment. However more people are feared buried inside.
The cause of the collapse is unknown although poor construction sandards could be to blame.
In July 2006 28 people were killed in Lagos in a similar incident involving another four-storey residential building, which had a restaurant, bar and shops on the ground floor.
