The World Festival of Yoruba Arts and Culture (WOFEYAC) takes place in Lagos in April. The main aim of the event is to promote the artistic and cultural heritage of the Yoruba people of West Africa. Besides local artists and performers there will also be participation from members of the Yoruba diaspora in the Caribbean, the United States and Europe.

The festival is being organised by the Alaroye group, which publishes newspapers and magazines in local languages. It has the backing of many prominent Nigerians including acclaimed author and Nobel prizewinner for literature Wole Soyinka.

The Yoruba make up around 21 per cent of Nigeria
