Accra international marathon

The eighth Accra international marathon includes a full marathon as well as half marathon, 10km and 5km courses.

The emphasis of the Accra marathon, organised by AIM Ghana, is on an active and healthy life style rather than on a tough athletic competition.

The course starts at Central University College and, as if to emphasise the fun of the race rather than its challenge, it finishes at the luxury Labadi Beach Hotel.

Funds this year go the Longevity Project to increase life expectancy in Ghana, which is one of the lowest in the world.

In 2012 life expectancy at birth in Ghana was 60.98 years, up from 56.99 years at the beginning of the millennium but still far below the average 80 years in most of the industrialised world.
