This marathon, which is now in its second year, emphasises the need to keep fit and focuses on common and preventable health problems such as high blood pressure, hypertension and diabetes.
It is organised by the Runathon Ghana Foundation, a non-profit sports organisation, and is expecting some 10,000 participants. Runathon Ghana is “passionate” about long distance running and was founded to encourage and train Ghana's long-distance runners.
The course starts at the Accra Sports stadium and finishes at Independence Square. The day includes a 50-km marathon, a wheel chair, a relay, a wheel chair course and a 5-km walk.
