Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards
The AMVCA cinema and television film awards ceremony is now in its second year with 28 awards up for grabs in 26 categories. This year there is a new category, the New Era award for the person who has made the most contribution to creating a new era in African film and television. It is an all-Nigerian cast for nominees in this category – Desmond Elliot, Kate Henshaw, Rita Dominic, Rukky Sanda and Uche Jombo.
The films with the most nominations are Ghana’s Contract (with nine), Nigeria’s Living Funeral (with eight) and Last Flight to Abuja (with six), Tanzanian’s Siri Ya Mtungi (with seven) and Kenya’s Nairobi Half Life (with seven).
There are five nominations in the best movie category, Contract, Last Flight to Abuja, Living Funeral, Flower Girl (Nigeria) and Awakening (Nigeria).
The award ceremony will be screened live in Lagos on DStv and GOtv.
African Magic is part of South Africa’s M-Net service, with at least nine channels showing across the continent dedicated to African content produced for African audiences.
