African International Film festival
8-15 Nov. As well as the awards for the best films with a strong African connection (subject, directors and actors) there are also workshops on marketing, digitalisation, management, piracy and sponsorship. The films (there are over 30 features and nearly 60 shorts) are from numerous countries across the continent. However in the foreign section almost half of the 25 films are Chinese.
One of the features showing is Mediterranean, the first full-length film by Jonas Carpignano, which made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival this year. It tells the story of two young men from Burkina Faso who make the dangerous Mediterranean crossing to Italy, where they find intolerance and racism rather than the better life that they had expected.
For details of the full programme see the festival website.
