Cairo International Women's Film Festival
27 Feb-3 March. Women's film festival schedules 60 screenings.
The film festival screens international and local films on important social, cultural and political issues. The films, from 40 countries, must have a woman director to be accepted but need not necessarily focus on feminist issues.
This year there is a new section dedicated to cinema and dance. The country focus is on Denmark and the festival pays homage to the Lebanese director Nabeeha Lofti for her film Because Roots do not Die about the lives of women in Palestinian refugee camp of Tal-al-Zaatar where thousands were massacred in 1976 during the Lebanese civil war.
