The purpose of the festival is to encourage low-budget experimental videos and films by up-and-coming Egyptian artists.
It is organised by Medrar for Contemporary Art, a philanthropic organisation to promote the work of young contemporary Egyptian-based artists at home and abroad.
The festival first launched in 2005, when video was still an almost unknown art form in Egypt. It is the festival's sixth edition and this year it is based on the idea of the generator, an alternative way to keep life in motion in a country that is subject to frequent power outages.
The festival will focus on alternative channels for creative energy, which is being held back by production and distribution difficulties throughout the region. International videos will also be shown during the festival.
Last year about 200 works from 30 countries were showcased. Screenings are at Medrar, the Gezira Art Center and the Zawya Cinema.
