Cape Town Pride

Arts events, workshops, political debates and parades. The festivities start with Pink Parade on 21 Feb at the De Waterkant village and end with the Pride Parade on 1 March at Cape Town stadium. For all details see Cape Town Pride website.

The Cape Town Pride festival is an oasis in the homophobic African continent where homosexuality is often considered a crime, carries long prison sentences and is brutally persecuted.

In Uganda President Yoweri Museveni is about to sign an anti-LGBT law passed by parliament on 20 December that carries a life sentence (instead of the death penalty as in the original draft of the bill) for some homosexual acts. In January Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan signed into law stricter anti-gay laws passed by parliament in May 2013.
