21-25 Nov 2006. Imbumba/Samesyn is a musical theatre production that celebrates South Africas musical and literary heritage. Drawing on the work of over 30 short story writers, lyricists and composers working in English, Zulu and Afrikaans, it tells the story of two characters who journey from opposite sides of the country in search of themselves and each other. On the way they encounter different people whose unique experiences are told through song, dance and short stories. The cast comprises Anna Mart van der Merwe, Gys de Villiers, Jill Middlekop, Jolette Odendaal , Relebogile Mabotja and Lerato Moloi, with music by Jannine Neethling, Godfrey Mcina, Mauritz Lotz and Carlo Mombelli. Texts and direction are by Jaci Smith and contributors include Stephen Watson, Elisabeth Eybers, Dia!Kwain, Mafikizolo, Miriam Makeba, Breyten Breytenbach, Chris Chameleon, David Kramer and N.P van Wyk Louw. The show received the Beeld Aardvark Prize for groundbreaking work for text and direction at the Aardklop Festival in 2005. Tickets R100-130. 21-24 Nov 20.15. 25 Nov 20.30.
