22 June 2012. On occasion of a new album launch, entitled Hip Hop Revolution, Goethe Institut hosts a live concert by Fujo Makelele, one of the founding members of Mombasa’s first Hip Hop group Ukoo Flani.
Makelele started his musical career as a rapper in 1994 and in 2005 and 2006 he won the title of Best Hip Hop Group in East Africa with the song Burn Dem. Together with Nazizi, the most famous female Kenyan Hip Hop artists, Makelele released the very successful hit song Hip Hop Halisi. In 2009 he started working on his solo album, which was recorded in Dar Es Salaam together with some of the best Tanzanian Hip Hop artists, such as Juma Nature, BK and Bob Q of TMK Halisi, Daz Baba of Tanzaniano as well as several Kenyan artists.
