Concert by the Giovanni Falzone Quintet
23 October 2012. This concert, entitled Around Ornette, organized by the Italian Institute of Nairobi, is performed by the famous Italian jazz group Giovanni Falzone Quintet.
This project, dedicated o the great saxophonist and jazz composer Ornette Coleman, who founded the free jazz movement in the 1960s, features four original pieces by Coleman, including Blues Connotation, Lonely Woman, Congeniality and Free, intertwined with four compositions by the Sicilian trumpeter Giovanni Falzone, such as Fuga Mentale, Ornette, King Of The Free and Bourbon Street, which create a dialogue between Coleman’s lyrical genius and Falzone’s expressive power and spontaneity.
On this occasion Falzone will be accompanied by four trusted collaborators, such as the tenor, saxophonist and clarinetist Francesco Barzatti, the trumpeter Beppe Caruso, the double bassist Paolino Dalla Porta and the drummer Antonio Fusco.
Since 2005 the multi award winning Falzone has been teaching instrumental and ensemble jazz music at the G. Verdi Conservatory of Milan as well as at the G. Verdi Conservatory of Como since 2008. The African Tour of the Giovanni Falzone Quintet includes concerts in Addis Ababa, Harare, Nairobi and Johannesburg.
Concert starts at 19.00.
