The East African Art Biennale association was founded in 2003 as a non-profit organisation to promote the arts in East Africa.
It is based in Dar es Salaam but is also active in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.
The biennale, which is for visual and performing artists, is now in its sixth edition.
In 2011 it also travelled to Arusha, Nairobi, Kampala, Kigali and Bujumbura.
It is considered one of the barometers of the state of the arts in East African, attracting about 100 artists. Is is part of the worldwide Biennial Foundation.
