19 Aug-26 Sept 2009. This competition, which has been held for the past 13 years, is the longest running band event in South Africa. It is open to bands of any genre, which are not judged on their musical style but on their performance on the day.

The judges include Peter Lacey from Musketeer Records, who introduced the band Seether from Johannesburg to Windup Records in the USA. Other bands that have emerged over the years partly thanks to this event are Freshly Ground, Plush, 340ml, the Parlotones, Prime Circle, the Finkelsteins and Evolver.

To enter or register your band or group go to www.rbf.sabc.co.za, click on the RBF Challenge banner and then click on booking form for bands; alternatively you can contact Kerry Johnson.

Performances are free and open to the public.
