Ethnomusic symposium Dar es Salaam

The subject of this year's edition of the annual symposium is Music in Africa Today, Uses and Practices.

The symposium, which is organised by the fine and performing arts department of the University of Dar es Salaam in conjunction with the Goethe Institute in Dar es Salaam, presents information, research and developments mainly in east African music but also in other parts of the world.

This is the first time in nine years that it will be held without its dynamic founder Mitchel Strumph, who has now moved to the Dhow Countries Music Academy in Stone Town, Zanzibar.

The symposium has strong links with the University of Washington in Seattle.
