8 December 2010-8 January 2011. This exhibition entitled When Meanings Face Glossy Surfaces brings together for the first time in Cairo five works produced by the Egyptian artist Mahmoud Khaled in the past three years. These works are The Studio as a Work of Art (2010), Google Me / Duplicate Self-portrait (2010), Niche (2009-10), Safety Zoom (2008-9) and This Show is my Business (2008).
Khaled lives and works in Alexandria.
In 2004 he received his BFA in painting from Alexandria University. He is also a founding member of the not-for-profit art initiative and gallery Alexandria Contemporary Art Forum.
Khaled produces multidisciplinary projects, which include video, photography, text, and site specific installation.
In his works Khaled investigates the boundaries between the personal, the political, the historical and the social domains and examines the often coded and powerful socio-political trajectories that run through our daily lives.
