2-21 October 2012. This exhibition, entitled Urbanization, features the latest acrylic, oil and water paintings by the Kenyan visual artist Tom Mboya. Mboya’s works focus on how human activities influence and affect the development of cities.
Mboya is a self-taught artist, who discovered his artistic talent at the age of nine through mud moulding. He subsequently started sketching on the ground by use of sticks and later on paper with pencils. He later started taking art seriously after he won the second class prize in an inter-schools drawing completion nation-wide, organized by the shoe company Bata. Since 2008 he resigned from his employment in the hotelier field and started painting fulltime for the Godown Art Centre. Mboya has sold his paintings around the UK, America and Africa.
