Festival Marrabenta

The 2014 edition of the Marrabenta festival of popular and folk music.

Marrabenta developed in Maputo in the 1930s and 1940s, out of Mozambican dance rhythms and Portuguese folk music such as fado.

Recently Marrabenta has also been influenced by reggae and blues and now includes pandza and zucuta, popular among the young.

Names to look out for are Mr Bow, Ziqo, MC Roger, Skhem Khem and Lizha James.
