The Future of Food is a film documenting the role of genetic engineering and industrial agriculture in modern food production and the negative impact that new technologies are having on farmers across the globe. Directed by Deborah Koons Garcia and released in 2004, it also explores alternatives to large-scale production such as organic farming. The documentary is presented by The Labia and While You Were Sleeping, a Cape Town-based non-profit film collective committed to bringing progressive, non-mainstream documentaries with important social and environmental messages to South African audiences.
