First Lady half marathon

The half marathon starts in Uhuru Gardens, through Wilson Airport Road, Langata Road, Mombasa Road and back to Uhuru Gardens.

The run, which is supported by the first lady Margaret Kenyatta and the sports ministry, is to raise money for mother and child welfare projects such as mobile clinics in poor areas to reduce deaths from preventable illnesses.

The president’s wife has been raising support among politicians throughout the country to take part or to support the “Beyond Zero” campaign. Government officials, diplomats and county governors wives all took part in the launch of the marathon at the beginning of February. The Nairobi county assembly has registered 100 of its members to take part.

As well as the 21-km event there is 10-km and a 2-km fun run. The first prize is KSh200,000.
