1-31 March 2006. The Centro Cutural Franco-Moambicano (CCFM) is offering a full programme of events in March to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Senegalese poet, independence leader and president Lopoldo Sdar Senghor, who died in 2001. Exhibitions, readings, concerts, music performances and other events highlight the diversity of francophone culture across Africa and beyond. Events to look out for include a performance by the multi-disciplinary French dancer Kossoko Sophiatou of a piece choreographed by the South African choreographer Robyn Orlin (4 March) and a concert by the Malian blues artist Boubakar Kar Kar Traor, on his first tour in Mozambique (16 March). Traor made a name for himself in Mali in the 1960s against a backdrop of post-independence euphoria. His tour will also take him to Beira in central Mozambique. Dance event 20.30, entry 100,000 meticais; concert 20.30, entry 200,000 meticais. For a full programme of events see the CCFM website.
