Georges Bahgory at Almasar Gallery
1-31 March 2011. This exhibition pays homage to the veteran painter, cartoonist and portraitist Georges Bahgory, one of the most important Egyptian contemporary artists. On display is his latest group of paintings. Bahgory has a particular passion for colours.
Bahgory is a third-generation artist and lives between Cairo and Ivry, Paris. He studied art at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Helwan University, where he graduated in 1955, and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris in 1970. Bahgory lived in Paris for 30 years and developed his talent in painting, sculpture and making dolls. In 1999 his artworks were selected to represent the Egyptian pavilion in the Louvre Museum. Some of his works are on permanent show at the Museum of Modern Art in Amman and the Modern Art Museum in Cairo.
