14-16 October 2011. The Goethe Institute organizes the series Global City-Local Identity a public debate on development, public space and cultural identity in African metropolises.

On this occasion international and regional professionals as well as local stakeholders and the wider public will gather together to discuss on the potentials of African cities and find some solutions to the challenges of urban development.

In fact, metropolises on the African continent are undergoing rapid growth and uncontrolled development. African cities are affected by various phenomena such as political experiments, rural-urban migration, globalization and competing economic interests. In this scenery these new metropolises face technical challenges and dramatic cultural transformations with the risk of loosing their specific identity.
