19 September-2 October 2010. On occasion of the 100th anniversary of animated films in Germany, the Goethe Institute of Alexandria pays homage to this film genre with two weeks of projections of classical and contemporary works both from Germany and Egypt.

The first German animated film was Happy New Year 1910 by Guido Seeber followed by many other movies for entertainment as well as political propaganda, such as the ones used during the two world wars. Egypt was a also pioneer of this genre and the cartoon Mish-Mish Effendi, born in 1935, was probably the most successful series in Egyptian history of animation.
