John Neumeier's Spring and Fall debuts in South Africa
The Cape Town City Ballet will dance John Neumeier's Spring and Fall, which consists of three works, Spring and Fall, Vaslav and Le Sacre. It is the first time that it will be danced in South Africa.
Two dancers from Neumeier's Hamburg Ballet, Silvia Azzoni and Alexander Riabko, will join the Cape Town City Ballet for the production and dance in every performance.
The works reflect Neimeier's fascination for Nijinsky and Diaghelev. Spring and Fall is to music by Dvořák. Vaslav, which was one of Neumeier's earliest works, is to music by J.S.Bach and Le Sacre is based on Stravinsky's Right of Spring.
Neumeier, who has been the artistic director of the Hamburg Ballet since the early 1970s, was influenced by the South African choreographer John Cranko in his early formation at the Stuggart Ballet.
