Lagos Carnival

The city carnival takes place along Awolowo Road, Campus Square and Tafawa Bewela Square.

On Easter Monday floats and people in beautiful costumes parade along the streets of Lagos Island. It is part of the week-long Lagos Black Heritage Festival.

This year music is the festival’s main theme to encourage innovative local musicians to compete with the prevailing influence from both the United State and Europe, particularly in the flourishing film industry.

The festival also includes theatre, a water regatta, the night of the poets and the children’s carnival.

Many of the events take place in Freedom Park.
