25 January-15 March 2011. This exhibition by the Syrian painter Thaier Helal displays a new series of mixed media canvases, made of lines and markings liberated from spatial bounds.

His paintings are colourful, energetic, rich in movement, people and places. Helal is often inspired by the gathering of crowds at political protests, marches, religious ceremonies and festivals and transform the tangible individual and collective experiences into abstractions. Since the 1990s Helal lives and works in the UAE and is a leading figure in the contemporary Middle East art scene.
