10-25 July 2009. MaKuYa is an abbreviation of Makonde, Makua and Yao, three tribes from the southeast of Tanzania near the border with Mozambique. This exhibition provides a window onto the traditional performing and cultural arts of the indigenous people from this part of the country, with a special focus on the traditional masks used in dancing. Photographs and traditional costume will also be on display along with the work of ADEA (The African Development through Economics and the Arts) in Mtwara, southeast Tanzania. The exhibition anticipates the second edition of the MaKuYa Festival in Mtwara from 14-16 August (makuyafestival.blogspot.com). Opening 10 July at 18.30. Mon-Sat 10.00-18.00.
