Maputo Classical Music Season

In this first cycle there are eight evening concerts and on 12 May there is a debate on the theme of the performing arts in Mozambique. The celebration concert on 10 May is to mark the 30th anniversary of the cooperation between Mozambique and the European Union. Most of the events are at 19.30 at the Teatro Avenida. The second cycle of the season is from 6-9 August.

During the classical music season there is also the Xiquitsi teaching project for orchestra and choir launched in 2103 for young musicians, based on the El Sistema in Venezuela and the Neojibá in Brazil. The programme gives all young people from 7-25 a chance to learn an instrument and perform together. The aim of the training project is to reach out to some 2,000 children throughout the country and to form the first symphonic orchestra in Mozambique.
