Mecca and Medina: A Photographic Journey by Faruk Aksoy

23 November-23 December 2010. On the occasion of the annual Islamic pilgrimage, the Photographic Gallery of the American University of Cairo dedicates this exhibition to the Turkish veteran photographer and documentary filmmaker Faruk Aksoy.

On display is a great collection of rare images of the Holy cities of Islam, Mecca and Medina, immortalized by Aksoy, who has lived in Saudi Arabia for the past 29 years. His large photographs capture pilgrims, sites and mosques and catch both spiritual and human aspects of the Islamic sacred sites.
