23 Sept 2006-Jan 2007. Over 80 works by San (Bushmen) artists dating from 1994 to the present go on show at the South African National Gallery in Cape Town. The brightly coloured works on paper and canvas are on loan from the private collection of Hella Rabbethge-Schiller from Rosenheim, Germany. Rabbethge-Schiller first came into contact with the San in the 1970s when she found herself living near a community of !Xun and Khwe refugees from Angola and Namibia in Schmidtsdrift in the Northern Cape. She became fascinated by their art and went on to purchase some 400 works produced as part of a local development project. The collection, which is housed in Germany, is thought to be the largest and most comprehensive collection of !Xun and Khwe art in the world. Entrance adults R10, children R5. Tues-Sun 10.00-17.00.
