Mogadishu Then and Now

15 Dec-14 Jan. This exhibition pays homage to Somalia’s capital, Africa’s most wounded city. Mogadishu is immortalized in all its splendour before the destruction of the civil war in 1991.

The images belong to the private collection of Mohammud Diriye, former curator of the Mogadishu Museum. Its shows present and future generations of Somalis about their great cultural heritage, which has to be restored and preserved. It also stimulates future urban planning and design initiatives by the international communities, who are working to strengthen and restore peace and stability in Somalia.

This exhibition was conceived by the Kenyan writer and photojournalist Rasna Warah and was displayed in Istanbul during the Conference on Somalia, organized by the Turkish government earlier in 2012.
