20 June 2009. The Iraqi oud player Naseer Shamma performs live at El Sakia, a cultural centre in Zamalek, to mark World Refugee Day on 20 June.

Shamma is one of the most prolific and esteemed oud musicians and has held concerts in various parts of the world. He is the only musician to have constructed an eight-string oud (instead of the ordinary six-string one) and has invented a new way of playing it using one hand, which also allows handicapped people to play this instrument. Shamma is currently director of the Beit Al-Oud Al-Arabi at Al-Harawi in Cairo, founded by him in 1998.
