28 August – 1 September 2012. The University of Cape Town Opera School in collaboration with Cape Town Opera presents Mozart’s famous opera, Così Fan Tutte, conducted by Kamal Khan.
For many centuries this sophisticated lyric opera, which was presented for the first time to the public in 1790, has been misunderstood: among the others Beethoven thought it was immoral and Wagner disliked the music. But Così Fan Tutte is considered today one of Mozart’s most admired and unsettling masterpieces.
Mozart’s sublime music tells of an apparent brittle comedy, which hides a story of deep pain, betrayal and sadness as two lovers assume disguises to test the constancy of their fiancées.
Daily at 19.30.
