17-31 October 2010. This exhibition, entitled Colour and Motion, displays the paintings by the Egyptian artist Taher Abdel-Azeem, who is considered the inheritor of the modern movement in Egyptian art. Abdel-Azim combines experimentation with traditional paintings. Among his favourite subjects is Islamic history, such as the life of the Prophet Mohammad, as well as the local folklore and Egyptian street scenes. In this exhibition the artist offers an insight into Sufi traditions and especially focuses on the tannoura, the traditional Sufi rhythmic dance, which is performed in circular movements by a group of dancers. The tannoura symbolizes the universe, which is immutable and constantly in motion.
