Shades of Time Art Exhibition

15-31 May 2012. This exhibition by Kaafiri Kariuki is entitled Shades of Time. Kariuki critically portrays contemporary society in what he calls its ironic existence.

This Kenyan artist, who has been drawing and painting since childhood, uses a special technique, called Dancing Pen, an intricate and time-consuming method with Rotring pens. African villages, slums and big cities are portrayed with nostalgic references to naive Africa.

Kariuki is a former street child and set up the Mukuru Arts and Crafts project in Nairobi’s industrial area in 2003.
