This year’s edition of the Social Media Week is sponsored by Volkswagen with the theme A Connected Africa is the Future.
Many events will be centred on the VW offices in Victoria Island but there are also plans to decentralise happenings into various locations across the city, called satellite venues, to engage a larger cross-section of different communities in Lagos. The Enterprise Creative HotHouse, recently opened in Ikeja to provide office space for media and creative entrepreneurs, is to be one of the venues.
One of the new events this year is 55FORWARD in which experts in eight cities across the continent will be linked via global conferencing to discuss the future of social media and impact in Africa.
Last year over 100 events were organised, with 8,000 registered participants.
