The Place. Migration from Africa to Europe

Baba Musah Swallah looks at the subject of illegal migration from Africa to Europe. He uses a mix of media in his works, such as canvas, wood, glass, cloth and rope.

Two friends of the artist died in their attempts to emigrate to Europe – one in the Mediterranean in 2005 and the other while crossing the Sahara to reach Libya in 2006.

Swallah has co-founded Nima Muhinmanchi Art, a grassroots organisation that provides art workshops for the young in Nima, a suburb of Accra.
