9 Sept 2007. This year the annual Great Ethiopian Run in Addis Ababa has been brought forward from its usual November date to coincide with celebrations for the turn of the Ethiopian millennium on 11-12 September. 30,000 amateur and professional athletes from all over the world will be taking part in the seventh edition of the ten-kilometre road race, which starts in the central Meskel Square at 09.00. Participants will include marathon world record holder Paul Tergat from Kenya and around 2,000 underprivileged children from Ethiopia, who will be taking part free of charge. There is also a special race for children aged 8-11 on 8 September at 09.00, also starting in Meskel Square. For registration information see the race website.
