14-28 Nov 2009. Michael Barrientos is an American documentary photographer based in Maputo. Over the years his work has appeared in the New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, USA Today and The Independent Magazine. In his latest exhibition, which is the fruit of a two-year project for his master's degree, Barrientos examines the devastating effects of coastal erosion in Mozambique. Experts predict that within 50 years the beaches in Maputo could cease to exist. Vanishing Coast documents the lives of those who work along the coastline and highlights the damage being caused by elements outside their control.
