19-23 Feb 2009. Conference and arts and science festival organised by the Aga Khan university exploring the culture of Indian Ocean countries. The programme includes workshops, discussions, exhibitions, concerts and film screenings at several venues in Nairobi. Highlights include a performance by France-based Comoran singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist musician Nawal (19 Feb at 19.00); and the Egyptian ensemble Mazaher inspired by different styles of Zar or trance music of north Africa and the Middle East (21 Feb at 19.00). Both concerts are at the GoDown arts centre on Dunga Road. Entry free.
