Zanzibar international film festival

This year the theme is “A Common Destiny”. The 10-day festival (or ZIFF is it is called by those in the know) will be screening nearly 80 films from 35 countries.

There are 23 feature-length films, 38 shorts and 18 documentaries. The opening film this year is Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom with some of the South African star sattending the opening ceremony.

The Zanzibar film festival has a long tradition of support for both film producers and audiences and is now increasingly focusing on important social issues across the continent.

Held in Zanzibar’s Stone Town the event includes music, dance, drama and fashion plus a special platform for women, which features a series of workshops and seminars addressing subjects such as increasing gender-based violence.
