The annual Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF), the Festival of Dhow Countries, is the largest East African film and arts festival, which gathers together filmmakers from all around the globe. There are long feature films, documentaries, animation films and short movies on the theme “A Shared History”. The programme includes a series of screenings, workshops, concerts, dance performances, exhibitions, literary forums, conferences, a dhow race as well as an Iranian Film Week and a Children Film Panorama.

The Goethe Institut organizes a filmmaking workshop, facilitated by the German film editor Nicolas Stampe. Over the past 20 years Stampe has worked on over a 1,000 short films and commercials, which have gained him numerous awards.
