Geological activities began in Mozambique around 1892, when the first mining services were established. From that time, specimens illustrating the geological and mineral characteristics of the country were collected and subsequently exhibited, with special attention being given to the didactic aspect of the display. The museum collection currently contains 5,853 exhibits including several precious and semi-precious stones.
