Opened in 1957, the museum contains archaeological remains, ethnographic items such as chiefs’ regalia, indigenous Ghanaian musical instruments, gold-weights, beads, traditional textiles, stools and pottery and works of fine art. There are also objects from other African countries including Senfu masks from Ivory Coast, Zulu wooden figures and bead-ware from Southern Africa, ancient Ife bronze heads from Nigeria and Bushongo carvings from the Congo.
