The museum contains a large collection of insects, started at the beginning of the 19th century, as well as several rare and extremely precious items including two elephant teeth each weighing 65 kg, a large collection of elephant embryos and foetuses, one of the most important examples of a Coelacanth (Latimeria chalumnae), a black and a white rhinoceros (the latter is almost extinct in Mozambique) and a collection representing all the fauna in the country.
