Hawkers are causing problems at the new transport terminal at Achimota in north Accra just a few weeks after it opened for service.

Local news sources reported in mid-January that petty traders from the nearby Achimota lorry station had relocated to the area around the new terminal, creating congestion and littering the place with rubbish. Hawking is banned inside the terminal itself.

The city council intervened on the night of 13 January by evicting the tradespeople from the area. It has said it will build special trading points in the vicinity for the hawkers in order to control their activities.
